It seems to be an on-going series of court cases that the media will select and report the events to the general population. The population is given the facts that the media chooses to distribute to its readers. Based on the news reports, the general population will come up with their own verdict based on the events given to them by the media. At the end of the trial, there may or may not be a public outrage over the verdict that the jury has decided for the individual.
This country was founded by a group of individuals that decided everyone has a right to a fair trial. A jury of our peers is selected as a representation of the general public. Hence, we are to respect the decision of the jury. In some manner, all cases, lawyers, plaintiff, and defendant are going to be different. However, we continue to adhere to a justice system that we believe to be consistent.
I wish the media would stop covering individual cases and start reporting on the inconsistencies of the system. Maybe the system needs to be fixed… Maybe it doesn’t. However, I fail to see any value for our justice system by hand picking select cases for the sole purpose of selling a news story. Celebrities endorsing verdicts on which they are not a part of the jury doesn’t promote fair trials.
